Yandex.Maps Offers New Way To Get Around

Not surprisingly, there are a lot of different navigation apps out there, and many offer their own distinct spin on navigation. Yandex.Maps, meanwhile, will offer an interesting new twist by focusing not on countries, but on cities.

Yandex.Maps offers maps for over 300 different cities from around the globe, including such unlikely locations as Russian cities, as well as those in Turkey, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Users can search for locations by name, by address, or by several other factors, including the overall points of interest. This isn?t terribly different from most other GPS systems, but Yandex.Maps steps it up a little further by offering information about those points of interest?except, for some reason, those of Turkey?as well as providing satellite imagery of the cities in question as well as panoramic street views for 230 cities. Yandex.Maps will also step things up with their Yandex Traffic system, complete with real-time alerts for all the major things that can play hob with a commute, like accidents and road closures. Best of all, further city maps can be downloaded as they?re available, and the app comes in a variety of languages, making it useful for a wider swath of users.

This may well be one of the first mapping software systems I?ve seen to cover large parts of eastern Europe and Russia, so for those who were looking to do a lot of traveling in that area, there will finally be a system that will cover the area. Naturally, there are other places covered by this software?300 cities covers a lot of ground, after all?but there is a little extra value for those looking to travel in that region.

The user interface is a little on the clunky side?I?ve used better, in all honesty?but still, there?s a lot to be said for that unusual location coverage. It?s a tool that those planning trips to Russia and the like will certainly want to further consider, but aside from that, it may not be the tool of the day.

Navigation tools, as ever, only go so far when it comes to making a small business work. Follow-through is just as important as initial contact, and cloud-based telephony systems like intelligent routing and meet-me conferences can help make the contacts made in person carry on to purchase and beyond.

Yandex.Maps may have something of a limited impact, but it?s going to do a pretty sound job under the right circumstances, and for those circumstances it?s definitely worth looking into.
