LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) -?A planned merger of Jewish Hospital, St. Mary's HealthCare in Louisville and St. Joseph Health System in Lexington was just announced.? The merger will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2012.
The hospitals will form KentuckyOne Health and will be the state's largest health system.
A statement from Jewish Hospital said the partners originally envisioned a 3-way merger that included University Hospital. University Hospital released a statement that said without the ability to participate in this merger or an infusion of significant and ongoing funding from the state, they will be unable to continue to provide the same level of service or training.
Last week, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear denied the proposed merger of University of Louisville Hospital with Jewish Hospital, St. Mary's and St. Joseph. University Hospital said they are working with the Governor's office to try to mitigate the concerns that caused him to withhold his approval.?
